This article says that after graduating from law school from Stanford she returned to her home state to practice law. There she was a state assistant attorney general from 1965-69 and a Republican state senator in 1969-74. She was appointed a state judge in 1974 and she was named to he Arizona Court of Appeals. Then in 1981 she was nominated by Reagan and became the first woman to serve in the Supreme Court. After leaving the Court, she served (2006) as a member of the Iraq Study Group.
