Huckleberry Finn: Controversial Topic

Do you think parents should be able to hit their children? Many people believe yes and many people believe no. Well, I believe that parents should be able to hit their children because it will give them self discipline yet their should be limits to the hitting. Also there is acceptable behavior and unacceptable behavior for how the parents are beating the children.
One of my main reasons for hitting your child is that is can cause good discipline. It will teach your children that when the do something wrong or go against your rules that deserve to get hit, but only if it was on purpose not by mistake. The reason why I say this is because, if I did something that went against my parents’ rules and my mom beat me, I would learn my lesson. I would not repeat my wrong doings, and I would try to do better.
Even though I believe that parents should be able to hit their children, I do not think that they should be able to abuse their children. For instance in Huckleberry Finn in chapter 6 on pages 23. Huck’s father (Pap) would abuse him. He would run after him with a knife and hit him the way that he shouldn’t hit him. He also locked him in a cabin, which also represents prison and starves him. That is something that you should not do to your child.
There is always acceptable and unacceptable ways of hitting your children. You could beat or spank the child with a belt, but you should never beat them with a wire or wooden stick. A lot of kids end up with all types of injuries and bruises because of abusive beatings that parents give them. If you beat the child with a belt, that would not be considered not abusive. I see no problem with that because it is called discipline.
In conclusion I would like say that I do think that hitting your children is acceptable. Yet you have to remember not to be abusive and there are limits to the hitting. You should only beat or spank your children with belts not with wire or wooden sticks.
